I love spending time in the community and meeting my neighbors! I have had the opportunity to meet so many in our community through my volunteer work with two very special organizations.
Finding you a home helps a dog find a home!
I donate a portion of all of my commissions to Two Dog Farms Korean Jindo rescue, a local grass roots organization that helps community members keep their dogs through training and education, and also rescues dogs from kill shelters through Southern California.
I'm a founding volunteer with Two Dog Farms, which is part of the NKLA Coalition and is a Best Friends network partner. An all-volunteer organization, we work together to rescue jindos from kill shelters in Southern California and provide support to current owners. Our family has fostered dozens of dogs and I love preparing them for their new homes through training and socialization, with walks through our neighborhood and outings to fun, area businesses. We love visiting Paper Or Plastik's patio, having the dogs play with friends at Eco Dog Doggie Daycare and Dog Wash, and visiting Hound Dog + Cat for yummy treats.
I also coordinate and host our twice yearly NKLA Super Adoption events and our annual Best Friends Strut Your Mutt event. Come join us, I love meeting new neighbors!
I enjoy working with dog owners in our community to help with training issues. Our goal is to keep in their forever homes instead of being surrendered out our already overburdened South Los Angeles Animal Shelter on 60th St and Western. I also work closely with the wonderful staff and volunteers at that shelter to evaluate Jindo and Jindo mixes, network for foster homes and coordinate their rescue from the shelter. There is nothing like the feeling of seeing that happy doggie face in your rearview mirror as you drive away from the shelter!
I also volunteer with my dog Chili as a therapy dog team with BARK Therapy Dogs. We participate in animal assisted activities, such as reading with children in an 8 week program to improve their reading skills and self-confidence by reading aloud to certified therapy dogs. We have spent many years volunteering at Sixth Avenue Elementary on Jefferson, working with the wonderful staff and students. We have also visited nursing homes, made school visits to explain dog safety and enjoy a monthly visit to John C. Fremont Library on Melrose at June in Hollywood. I have loved making a difference, one child at a time.
